You will get to know the Residenz, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The palace was designed by Balthasar Neumann and built from 1720 through 1744. It is considered one of the most important palaces in Europe. The architect drew his inspiration from all over Europe. The ceiling frescoes above the grand staircase and in the impressive Imperial Hall by the Venetian artist Giovanni Battista Tiepolo are world famous. In the afternoon, you travel to Coburg for a visit of the Veste, the fortress where Martin Luther took refuge and lived during the Peace of Augsburg. The tour includes a visit and an explanation of the Ducal Palace (“Fürstenbau”) with guests’ living room, Luther Chapel und private living rooms of Duke Carl Eduard von Sachsen-Coburg und Gotha, the Old German Art Collection (late medieval paintings and sculptures, including the “Gandersheimer Evangeliar”), the Hunting Room, the Banqueting Hall (“Große Hofstube”) (Court Weapons) and Luther’s Rooms. Day 3                             Bayreuth, Franconian Switzerland

Bayreuth has a rich cultural and historical heritage to preserve. To round off your tour you climb the Castle Tower (16th century): from there you can enjoy panoramic views of the Festival Theatre and across to the Fichtelgebirge Mountains. The New Castle was the residence of the Margraves of Bayreuth. Margrave Friedrich and the Prussian Princess Wilhelmine, sister of Friedrich the Great, were the most outstanding personages of Bayreuth in the 18th century. The New Castle built by the French architect St. Pierre in 1753, shows the features of Bayreuth Rococo in an exemplary way. The particularly notable rooms of the Margravine’s city residence are the Garden and Palm Room, Wilhelmine’s Music Salon and the famous Cabinet of Fragmented Mirrors. After the visit to the New Castle, you drive through the typical Franconian Switzerland passing the village of Tüchersfeld. You see timber-framed-houses that seem to be glued onto the rocks. Continue through the romantic highland scenery with chalky, White Jurassic rock cliffs and deep ravines. In the evening, you arrive in Munich for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 4                             Munich

Today you explore the highlights of Munich, the Bavarian Capital, during a sightseeing tour by bus. Explore the historic city center’s most famous churches, monuments and squares, including the Old Town Hall, St Peter’s Church, Viktualienmarkt, Odeonsplatz and the Munich Residenz. The tour continues to the Palace of Nymphenburg, the former summer residence of the Bavarian elector princes and kings with its beautiful and spacious gardens. You will visit the palace and its magnificent interiors such as the Baroque Steinerne Saal, the Gallery of Beauties (“Schönheitengalerie”) and you will have a look at the chamber where King Ludwig II was born. After a boat trip you reach the calm island Herreninsel for a visit of one of Germany’s loveliest royal attractions, the magnificent Herrenchiemsee Palace. Built in the 19th century by King Ludwig II, this royal landmark sits among picturesque Bavarian scenery of majestic lakes and mountains. With elegant gardens, walkways and ornate interiors of gold, glass and porcelain, this palace reflects pure opulence. Some even say that many of its features, like the vast Hall of Mirrors, surpass those of the Palace of Versailles. Day 6                                Neuschwanstein, Linderhof, Oberammergau, Munich

Today you will continue to Germany’s most visited castle: Neuschwanstein, perched high up on a mountain in the Alps. The shimmering white towers of the castle almost touching the clouds are instantly recognizable to many. Disney’s Sleeping Beauty Castle was inspired by Neuschwanstein. To visit it is to step inside a fairy tale. „Mad“ King Ludwig II realized this architectural dream and it became world famous. The majestic facade conceals an unbelievable splendor inside: very exquisite furniture, luxurious decors and masterly artistry. The journey will continue to beautiful Linderhof Palace, which is another of King Ludwig’s II Royal Bavarian Castles. This is the only one he lived to see completed. The Palace, although much smaller than Neuschwanstein, also displays a unique Neo-Rococo splendor and reflects King Ludwig’s fascination with the French Ancient Régime. After the visit, you continue to the “Passion Play village with heart” in the Alps, Oberammergau. You can explore the lovely village, the museum, the parish church and visit a woodcarving workshop.
